The Rundown Slam: PWR Live: Shake, Rassle and Roll

10/23/2018 03:06:37 PM

Halloween came early in the local wrestling scene, and Philippine Wrestling Revolution delivered a lot of hard-hitting treats – and it came without any sort of tricks, except that Crystal-John Sebastian LQ that still entertained people inside the 500 Shaw Pavilion Event Center in Mandaluyong City.

Interesting that for at least Mike Madrigal has gotten the main event a sort of rejuvenation, or during his championship match with Ralph Imabayashi. Strange, though, to see two of PWR”s top heels going at it for the near-culmination part of the show. I kinda wish The Walking Death went home with the title, though.

I have to say that QUATTRO is really the rising star of the local wrestling scene for this year. From a pre-show stopper to indeed a show-stopper, the light-bringer isn't just a Velveteen Dream-esque player in the corner. Forget his impression at the entrance, his fast-paced showdown with The Kid from Malaysia has gotten everyone pumped up during the latter part of this program.

Alexander Belmonte III is not a WARLORD for nothing. Not only he cheated death with The Apocalypse and The End Game. He put a stamp and stomp on them during the All Out War. A well-told match, to say the least.

Martivo cemented his status as a guy who just beat PWR's international-calibrated wrestlers. Forget Crystal's distraction, because even if he does, there's no way that The Man-Doll can take another loss. Beyond the show, though, Martivo's performance really raised the bar among all the wrestlers both in the promotion and in the country. Don't you just love his working ethic and efforts?

Meanwhile, interesting to see how far things will go in the lovers' quarrel. Could this lead into another inter-gender match between these two? Hey, why not? They already inserted themselvs into a 6-pack challenge for the PHX Championship at PWR Vendetta anyway. At least we can forgive the Wrestling Lord and Savior for a pun intended miscalculation.

I was shocked not to see any interesting development between PWR and MWF though, as six guys from two promotions are slated to share the ring together for Manila Wrestling Federation's upcoming gig called Todos Los Wrestling. Or maybe because I probably expected something from that feud. Or also, just maybe because this PWR event already had a stacked card. Speaking of which...

Three tag team matched took place, and we were almost treated for a swerve of the year until it turned to be a trick. Nope, Mh4rckie isn't turning back on Kh3ndrink. Meanwhile, the Naughty Boys emerged victorious in their two respective bouts, but the test between the power of friendship continues despite showing up as the Los Incorrigbles De Poblacion. They wound up being piled of junk by Mr. Sy's Group (MSG). Hell, they should gun for another Ubusan Ng Lahi match, but in case... who would join SANDATA and Main Maxx's budding faction?

Vlad Sinnsyk is seemed to go up to the title picture. Am I excited to see him win and call Ang Bagong Kampeon Ng Pilipinas? Probably, but that would mean another tussle into his clash with Madrigal soon. But I don't think he's not finished yet with Rederick Mahaba, and with the way things are going between him and his partner, looks like we are seeing a potential tandem implosion.

All in all, PWR Live's Halloween show delivered well despite starting a bit late and having only one pre-show match, a smaller-than-usual projector, and a bit of a mellowed-down main event.

The Verdict: 8.0
