Better With Beer, Hong Kong’s ultimate craft beer festival, gives fans even more reasons to look forward to the two-day event with the announcement of its full music lineup along with a variety of other programme highlights and additional guest brewers. Taking place at Central Harbourfront on Friday 15 and Saturday 16 September 2023, the inaugural edition of the festival, which is organised by the team behind Clockenflap in partnership with the Craft Beer Association of Hong Kong, will feature over 150 beers from more than 20 local breweries and distributors, as well as live music, a wide variety of food outlets, outdoor games, and much more across three four-hour sessions. Early Bird tickets are on sale now priced from HK$400, including unlimited free-flow beer. 

Hong Kong’s Best Brewers

Dedicated to showcasing the very best of Hong Kong’s buzzing craft brewing scene, Better With Beer features the city’s most acclaimed and innovative breweries and distributors. Newly announced names include Black Kite, Breer, Brew Commons X Causeway Brewing, Brewdog, Citibrew, Deadman, Foam Beer, Gweilo, Hopless Daze, Lion Rock Brewery, Maks Beer, N.I.P x Mezzanine Makers, Neon Cider, Taboocha and Tai-Pan Beer Co.

They join the previously announced Brews Over Borders, Carbon Brews, H.K. Lovecraft, Heroes Beer Co, HIGHERTHAN, Hong Kong Beer Co, MiMi Beer, Moonzen Brewery, Owlsome Brothers, Yardley Brothers and Young Master.

Attendees will be able to enjoy multiple beers and other tipples from all of these breweries.

Music to Drink Beers By

Better With Beer also presents a bumper programme of live music from some of Hong Kong’s best bands and DJs in the specially curated entertainment tent Dai Dadi, plus intriguing games and other entertainment, with each of the three sessions featuring a different selection of bands or DJs, giving fans the opportunity to choose the lineup they like best.

Getting the party started on the opening Friday evening session, which runs from 6pm to 10pm, are a selection of Hong Kong’s most compelling DJ talents. Crimes Against Pop, the DJ duo known for playing a potent mix of hip-hop, pop and anything else that takes their fancy, kick the evening off at 6pm, followed by funk, soul, disco and hip-hop classics from South Canton Soul Train at 7pm. MouseFX serves up roots reggae with a Cantonese twist at 8pm, before Uptown Rockers bring the curtain down with a wide-ranging headline set packed with non-stop bangers at 9pm.

The Saturday afternoon session, which runs from noon to 4pm, will get off to a flyer with pop-reggae-dancehall band Murphy and The Lawyers from 12:15pm-12:45pm, before psychedelic surf rockers Mr Koo take the stage from 1:15pm-1:45pm, followed by indie-folk singer-songwriter Gwenji from 2:15pm-2:45pm. Closing out the session from 3:15pm-4pm is the IRSP Records Takeover, with performances by members from Biascut, Science Noodles, Leathions, Daisy Daisy, Mason Moy and IQ society.

The Saturday evening session, which runs from 6pm to 10pm, begins with upbeat dance rock and synth pop courtesy of Shumking Mansion from 6pm-6:30pm, while rockabilly mavericks The Boogie Playboys will up the ante from 7pm-7:45pm. Freeform jazz band Fountain Collective perform from 8:15pm-9pm, before eclectic hip-hop crew M4Gang finish the festival on a high note from 9:30pm-10pm.

Games & Live Entertainment

As well as the music, there will be a host of outdoor games to enjoy at The Playground, including the Beer Crate Bridge Challenge, Giant Aeroplane Chess, Hong Kong-style Hopscotch, Kick the Cock, Giant Jenga, Corn Hole, Chinese Snooker and Chinese Chequers, plus a variety of tabletop games. 

Alternative ambiance can be found at the Festival’s Dai Pai Dong Tent where attendees can look forward to Drag Bingo with the one and only Madame Mincemeat, plus Lip Sync Battles, Air Guitar Competition, live comedy, quizzes, and the Dai Pai Dong DJs.

Food

Hungry beer drinkers will be spoiled for choice, with an incredible array of delectable dishes and diverse cuisines from all corners of the globe.
