Upcoming: Westworld

10/07/2016 11:31:03 AM

From the epic Game of Thrones to other screen hits Ballers, Silicon Valley and The Newsroom, another TV series will be premiered on the popular general entertainment in cable television as HBO brings you Westworld.

The sci-fi drama series was seemingly inspired on a mixed concepts of the successful adventure trilogy films like Hunger Games and Divergent, with the touch of Artificial Intelligence and those reality-TV pegs like The Truman Show.

Though Westworld was actually a TV adaptation from that 1973 film directed by Michael Critchon. It has a star-studded cast headlined by Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood and James Marsden.

It is a dark odyssey depicting the developing world of artificial consciousness and evolution of sin, as co-creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy explains.

“Building on the incredibly evocative concept of the original film, we wanted to pose the question: If you could be completely immersed in a fantasy, one in which you could do whatever you want, would you discover things about yourself and what you didn't want to know?” said Nolan.

“We also wanted to explore what it means to be human from the outside in – through the eyes of 'hosts'; the lifelike AI Characters that re main attractions of the park. It's a meditation on the consciousness –the blessing and the burden of it – beautifully portrayed by our remarkable cast,” added Joy.

Yours truly became part of the press preview of this TV series a week ago. And based on what I have seen here – as well as the world premier aired 3 October 2016 – while the TV version still shown the effects of censorship, Westworld is a promise waiting to be delivered in full-effect. It seems everything went flawless from the special graphical effects to the tight and wide shots.

And while the plot appears to be in total chaos at the start, the blurs were about to get vanished as conflicts inside these two groups arise. More of a dual version of man vs. himself story because the creative superiors were arguing about the development of storylines, the characters and its programs, and everything in between.

That goes to the guests as well, with everything they've been living like a it's big lie and world of lies. Everything in their way of changes despite moving in the same exact scenery and chronology.

Westworld just showed the world as a big diorama. And while Take 2 was never applicable in life at all times, it just proves how mistakes in life can be really critical – especially if you're a storyteller.

Westworld airs Mondays at 9:00 AM, with encore telecast at 9 P.M. The first season features 10 episodes, each running in 60 minutes.

P.S. Shoutouts to HBO Asia and Sky Cable Corporation for the opportunity to witness Westworld before hand.
