05/25/2018 12:00:35 AM

Indeed, paparating na ang mga alien.

After nearly seven months from postponement, the iconic Pepe Smith is back and the tribute Pepe Smith Rock Fest is set to hit the ground for good in a few weeks time.

Smith was supposed to perform at this tribute event on November 2017 with 60+ bands set to join him in the party. But after he was hospitalized due to stroke, the organizers have decided to move the rockfest to a later date.

Despite having slurs on his talks, the 70-year old Smith showed up at the press conference for The Pepe Smith Rockfest held on Saturday, 19 May 2018, at The Woodman's Head seafood restaurant in Makati City. With him back in full health and recovering from three strokes, he legendary rockstar is ready for another day-long act of rock and roll again on 2 June 2018 at the Amoranto Sports Complex; defying the critics and rumors surrounding his age and status in the process.

Joining him are the pool of key personnel responsible for organizing the scheduled 19-hour extravaganza, including his daughter Queenie Smith. The lady Smith is also set to perform at the rock fest as her comeback attempt in the performing scene as well as contributing to her father's efforts in putting up such big event.

Named after him, the Pepe Smith Rock Fest isn't an ordinary music festival as free-flowing music, as well as other activities in relation to the rock and roll culture, will take centerstage from morning 'til dawn. Around 8,000 people are expected in attendance inside this oval-laden venue in Quezon City.

Coincidentally to the number of his age, over 70 bands – divided into various classification of genres such as reggae, metal, hardcore, and even indie – are slated for the gathering. Imagine a night where bands from the underground and indie scenes collide with some of the already-household names in the industry; spanning more than four decades of them in the process. Some of the bands lined up to perform are Blue Jean Junkies, Bonifacio Republic, Demi, Distorted Mankind, Flying Ipis, Gary Perez, Gracenote, Hilera, Imago, The Itchyworms, Jah Dela Cruz, Maria Cafra, Mayonnaise, Mortal Wounds, Philia, Razorback, Saydie, Shotgun Combo, The Soledads, Tanya Markova, Tropical Depression and The Youth.

Also, a two-hour battle of the bands segment called Tribal Bandidos will grace the Pepe Smith Rock Fest by the lunch hours, wherein three of the ten metal groups will be pitting against each other for the right to be chosen by TRIBAL to play for the upcoming Dutdutan Festival in November.

In addition, Pepe Smith's manager Marc de Leon claimed that many side-events will also be taking place during the music festival, such as motorcycle exhibit, art gallery, vape expo, and the PHILTAG-Tattoo Convention; with themes for the art gallery and tattoo competition (both pre-made and on the spot) solely dedicated to the legendary musician. Food concessionaires comprised of 30+ stalls will also be present as well as the.

The event is poised to be a send-off for Smith, who's been a rock and pop culture icon since the mid-20th century, especially during his heydays with the Juan dela Cruz band.

Asked about who among the present-day acts he wants to play with, The King of Pinoy Rock n Roll answered in an open challenge manner.

“Lahat sila, gusto kong maka-jam,” said the ecstatic Smith with conviction. “I mean, kung sino ang gusto sumama sa akin at makipag-tugtugan, tara, let's do it!”

“Ganito naman yan eh, pasayahan at pasarapan ng tugtugan, hindi payabangan,” added Smith.

Meanwhile, the Pepe Smith Signature acoustic guitars were also unveiled during his meet-up with the press.

Expect a whole bunch of rock-and-roll in the The Pepe Smith Rockfest, happening on Saturday, 2 June 2018 at the Amoranto Stadium in Quezon City, from 8:00 AM to 3:00 AM. Tickets are available for PhP 650 (General Admission) and PhP 1500 (VIP) – both comes with free T-Shirt.
