The Rundown Slam: MWF Maki-Wrestling 'Wag Matakot

05/31/2018 02:49:26 AM

Since its reboot, the Manila Wrestling Federation continues to roll with new stories to tell as they positioned themselves as the new alternative theater spectacle in the country today.

And three months since changing guards and seasons, MWF was back at the grounds of University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City for its second show titled “Maki-Wrestling, 'Wag Matakot” on 27 May 2018. It was a Sunday evening filled with action and fun a bit fresh from its maiden event named Kasaysayan.

Majority of the matches slated for MWF 2 were continuation of their feuds from the previous gig, while the main event featured Robin Sane and Mr. Lucha once again, and it was for the inaugural match for the MWF Championship Tournament.

The event also featured a one-off match for PWR's Sandata against “Danger” Rex Lawin; and it was also a homecoming for the PWR's Pinoy Tecnico and ex-GM Mr. Sy as they also hailed from UP. A fun segment that blew everyone inside the Bahay Ng Alumni. While seeing two promotions crossing paths with each other, creative-wise it may blur the line of exclusivity if they continue taking this path soon. Still, you have to love the fact that both promotions show their love in spite of the budding competition among them.

Especially when Chilly Willy also taking part in their opening billboard. Safe to say, this is a guy that successfully managed to participate in all three wrestling promotions here in the country.

Ninja Ryugin and Morgan Vaugh defeated Hanzhello Silva and Aldrin Richards. Interesting on how the mind-games story between this tandem was made prior to the match.

And just a lot thought that pillow fight is a silly “for kids only” match, we were wrong. They may not bag the honors for being the night's outstanding segment, but got to love how this inter-gender contest has made Ashura a threat for the boys despite losing to the hypebeast-looking Kyle Sison, who's been slowly showing signs of being a potential mid-card heel in the group.

Meanwhile, the main event may have put up another solid outing – and made Robin Sane the genuine torch-bearer of MWF, but RG versus Gus Queens stole the show. Hell, makes me wonder if that's the longest-duration wrestling match I have ever seen; like it was literally held from start to finish of MWF 2, with massive props and crowd pops that has made RG a sympathetic face of the night against Life Coach Gus Queens who generated massive heel heat from the crowd. With the PWR boys, Lawin, and MWF senior analyst Tarek El Tayech disturbing the peace, the suddenly-kickoff and dark match has sent everyone happy.

But I have to say Fabio Makisig has sustained the hype he made prior to Maki-Wrestling, 'Wag Matakot. The guys has been despicably hilarious from the promos to the match itself with Gigz Stryker against The Liwanags. Safe to say that this preaching family is slowly on the rise again.

All in all, MWF 2  simply continued what their April show has started. They got a bunch of solid hype in a relatively-lesser number of crowd. Anyone who missed this gig should save their bucks for the seats in their next show titled Republika.

The Verdict: 8.6
