StopOver: Mow's Bar

01/07/2019 07:18:15 PM

There's always a reason why Quezon City was called The City of The Stars, and we don't talk celebrities and their home networks situated within this area. The place has a lot of entertainment districts to offer – with some of them making lights by the dimmed hours of the night. QC has been the home to some of best gig venues in the metro such as Route 196, Sessions, and the iconic '70s Bistro.

However, one of the fast-rising (and evolving) music and hangout places in the metro is also situated at Quezon City – just nearby the popular Maginhawa eat strip. In fact, it's on the basement floor of the classic Kowloon House restaurant.

Initially staged and intended for light jazz and acoustic music, Mow's bar emerged as one of the bars that transpired the young and angsty ones. This is where some kids staged their shows and feature so many underrated and obscure acts in this current crop of band explosion era. Apart from that, open mic comedy shows are staged here every Tuesday. Also, this place has been home to regular prods like Stay Useless and Furiosa.

But what makes Mow's Bar a standout among the rest – at least at their own right?

They have one of the cheapest food and drinks menus. You could even have a good time for spending just around 50-ish pesos for a bottle of beer, and less than 70 pesos for their iconic 3-piece shomai meal. A piece of a cheap thrill, I must say, next to the likes of Historia.

But just like those other famous bars in the neighborhood, Mow's can be a relatively small venue to house some of the blockbuster gigs today. Their sound system is just at the average self, though good thing that they have a better lighting system this time around, and that makes Mow's Bar sport a somewhat hip atmosphere. They also expanded their space in over three years in the business and put the known pin light to rest.

And also, Mow's is currently known to stage a lot of “pay-what-you-can” events; encouraging more people to hang around and have some fun even on a stiffer budget.

Overall, Mow's bar is no question, one of the best hang around for the young hipsters in town. But not necessarily translates to being one of the best among the rest in the metro. They boast a lot of underground (literally) that fits enough for the young nocturnals. It's just... good luck if you're a commuter because access to public transportation is somewhat limited during the post-gig hours.

Mow's bar is located at the basement floor of Kowloon House, in 20 Matalino Street, Diliman, Quezon City. The bar operates nightly from 7:00PM to 2:00 AM.
