Banking in time of COVID-19 crisis: UnionBank hits the road with its 5G mobile banking van

03/31/2020 05:25:28 PM

UnionBank of the Philippines has stepped up its game in mobile banking in time for the ongoing pandemic era.

Recently, the bank has been deploying its kiosks to different areas in the country. It is hailed as the country's first-ever mobile banking stall, aiming to make the service more accessible to its customers amid the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) implemented in Luzon to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

With the equipped 5G technology, UnionBank can leverage on higher bandwidth and a faster internet connection – 20 times faster than other networks available – which translates into better and more reliable digital services for the bank's clients.

As of this writing, the van is roaming around to the following areas within the following days: Eastwood, Libertad Mandaluyong branch, and Makati Ave. branch, as well as the Commonwealth and Nova Gulod branches for the release of GSIS pension in these two branches by end of the week.

The mobile banking van had its first leg of its series of detours at Marikina City last Friday (27 March).

UnionBank chief technology and operations officer and chief transformation officer Henry Aguda said the bank is in constant pursuit of ways to bring its services closer to its customers as aligned with its advocacy to promote financial inclusion in the country. This is important as a lot of Filipinos are currently under lockdown.

“Banking services are among the most essential services for many people. However, access to these services has been very limited because of the health crisis that we are currently facing,” said Agoda. “By deploying a mobile banking kiosk that is powered by 5G technology, not only are we able to make banking more accessible to customers, we are also able to do so in a way that is faster and more efficient.”

He added, “It's all part of UnionBank's goal of enabling inclusive prosperity for everyone, even in these very challenging times.”

UnionBank also announced they are on the verge of serving more areas soon. Visit the UnionBank of the Philippines and The UnionBanker pages on Facebook for more information.
