Island Records reaches the PH shores as its regional base in SEA

MCA Music – formally known as Universal Music Philippines – has recently welcomed a record label that will cater to some of the country's homegrown music talents and elevate them further to the international stratosphere.


The British-Jamaican label Island Records has expanded its reach by putting up its regional base in the Southeast Asia region. The budding powerhouse teamed up with MCA Music and the latter's newest subsidiary Island Records Philippines was born.

In a recent virtual presser held on Tuesday (21 July 2020), Managing Director of Universal Music Philippines Enzo Valdez takes pride in the record label’s efforts in trailblazing a new era of music culture.

“Island Records is an iconic label that represents creativity, adventure, and authenticity,” said Valdez, one of today's high-profiled professionals in the music scene. “It celebrates artistry, individuality, and style, while also amplifying the voice of the artists.”

With the record label’s initiative to give partner artists an opportunity to make history and be part of something big, expect only the best in terms of talent and artistry from its maiden roster of exciting, innovative, and fresh new discoveries. 

Spearheading this internationally-recognized label are Juan Karlos, One Click Straight, Over October, Fern, Lala Vinzon and Zack Tabudlo –  six artists who are poised to take the country by storm as they answer the call to help redefine Original Pinoy Music and stand out in the global music arena with their unique brand and authenticity. 


One Click Straight
Both the singer-songwriter and producer Fern and the alt-pop outfit One Click Straight push their sound into new music horizons by incorporating indie and electronic sensibilities with heartfelt anthems that connect the personal with the universal. Lala Vinzon and Zack Tabudlo have similar approaches in reinventing their pop past with impeccable showmanship and a stylistic excursion into new musical directions. Over October heralds an easy-listening sound with cleverly crafted lyrics and emotionally resonant appeal that wouldn’t feel out of place in today’s most-streamed mood playlists. To complete the pioneering batch, multi-platinum band juan karlos plans to create an impact in the international and local music markets with the release of his newest single ““BLESS Ü.”

All of these six artists made their presence felt at the digital launch of Island Records Philippines held two evenings later (23 July 2020), with top actor and celebrity endorser Tony Labrusca hosting the event. The 90-minute program also featured several surprise international guests from the Island Records global family such as PUBLIC, Skip Marley, Johnny Orlando, Olivier O’Brien, Keshi, Jack Ross, and Banners.

Before making it to the Philippine shores, Island Records was first established in Jamaica more than six decades ago. The international music brand maintains its position as one of the world’s legendary record labels, a coveted destination for new and established artists of every description. They boast a plethora of today's hottest names in the industry as well as the timeless iconic ones – from U2 to Queen, Elton John to Amy Winehouse. To date, the Island Records roster includes Shawn Mendes, Demi Lovato, Mike Posner, Bon Jovi, Mumford & Sons, Florence and the Machine, The Killers, Nick Jonas, Jessie Reyez, Bishop Briggs, Jack & Jack, Skip Marley, and many more.
