Flick Peek: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

May 2023 is somehow monumental for me as a seldom movie watcher. If we talk about Marvel Cinematic Universe here, this marked my tenth year since the first time watching a MCU movie. And sure, I may not be able to watch every single flick since then. However, I never missed a time of seeing both the first and second installments of Guardians of The Galaxy at the cinemas.

Thus, enter the Vol. 3 into the picture; a budding culmination to a three-part saga involving the gang of misfits and their shares of misadventures and clashing encounters with various celestial icons and races from different planets of the galaxy.

This one, though, focuses on one prestigious character which has been quite overlooked – and the eventual shift of leadership between Peter Quill, and the critically-injured Rocket. Plus, the group's attempt to save their comrade's life by storming Counter-Earth and eventually battling the High Evolutionary. Not to mention, the internal conflict for Adam Warlock's quest on his allegiance.

Not gonna lie, this is one focal point of the story I didn't see coming. It feels like since Yondu's death at Vol. 2, James Gunn has switched the emotional meter of the franchise to a very serious and emotional pace. Not only I was moved to the scenes involving this racoon; I also got a bit teary-eyed for a few times in particular scenes involving Rocket's life-and-death-like situations.

Wow. I'm not crying. We're all crying, damn it!

Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3 feels like a merging of Infinity Wars and a finale of whatever your favorite sitcoms were. They're damn emotional, damn too long, and at times, a tearjerker.

If this is the way this trilogy would end, I'm fine with that. And probably, because I am that bias since of all the components the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Guardians series was something I could say am really a fan of with all the humor, misfits-based characters and... yes, the soundtrack – which covered a damn wide time span of music, by the way.

That definitely shook me to the core.

The Verdict: 8.9/10

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 is written and directed by James Gunn. Starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, featuring Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Sean Gunn, Chukwudi Iwuji, Will Poulter and Maria Bakalova.
