The Rundown Slam: WWE SummerSlam 2016 (Part 2)

08/29/2016 03:25:32 PM

As we move to the main program, SummerSlam set looked like the production design of NXT TakeOver Brooklyn II – but on a bit of throwback, it appeared resemblances with of SummerSlam/WrestleMania 32 at the ramp, with bits of WrestleMania NY/NJ at the main LEDs (minus the landmark effigies) and WrestleMania XXX on its LED pattern at the wings.

Hey, at least they shied away from their generic PPV set that ran for two years. I guess they really need that revamp since they are on the new era in the first place.

And I kinda love what the graphics executed this time around. That's the proper way to introduce superstars (unlike when you compare it to Battleground).

Anyway, first off the charts were Enzo and Big Cass versus Jeri-KO. While the certified Gs were awesome (as usual) on the mic, Jeri-KO was nothing but greats on both trash talk and chemistry. And their victory proved they can't be tamed by the homecourt of their rivals.

The match was sort of entertaining, just good enough to start SummerSlam.

Verdict: 7

As much as we are shocked to see Charlotte regaining the gold for the RAW's Women's division, it is more sad to see a fighting fallen soldier in Sasha Banks. The latter had been hampered by her nagging back injuries which became more evident in the storytelling.

And despite some massive botches along the way, I think I could still saw we have the match of the year candidate courtesy of these two. Both Charlotte and Sasha Banks were fighting as if there's no tomorrow. Heck, they even wrestled more brutal than the other guys at the locker room. Clearly, shades of their array of duels during those NXT TakeOver specials 1-2 years ago.

Verdict: 8.1

The Miz retained his Intercontinental title against Apollo Crews to break the IC-switch curse and kicked off SmackDown's part for the SummerSlam main program.

As usual, Miz was off the rocks for being a heel champ, and it proved how Apollo, though as always impressive, hasn't that ripe yet to become champion. Give the latter much time wrestle in the blue brand and he's even worth to handle the WWE World Championship.

Nothing really significant, I must say.

Verdict: 6
