Yay or Nay? The Shockers, Stunners, and Suckers of 2014 (Part 5)

1/6/2015 8:25:23 AM

I managed to write the first two parts of this series previously known as the Yay or Nay? The Shockers of 2014. But again, since almost every single news item (if not all) brought uop our level of consciousness, I decide to rename the entire thing as the Shoclers, Stunner and Suckers of 2014. Stun and Shock may be synonymous to each other but I really meant ‘shock’ in general and ‘stun’ on the positive limelight here.

We were stunned by the outcome of all the things which are considered positive in our eyes simply beacuse it brought nothing but good vibes and uplifted out spirits, at least, for a while.

But on the flipside, there are some controversial issues which should have not been brought to circulation in the first place. But still, we ended up wasting our time, effort to think, kinetic energy and even saliva simply because we are bored.

Anyway, here are the continuation of the other shockers, stunners and suckers of the the year that was... yes, 2014!
Sudden Disappearance | 1/2/2015 4:45:18 PM

Suddenly, they were up, up in the air, and the next time around you’ll be surprised they are nowhere to be found.

How on earth, in the advent of GPS, the Malaysian Airlines flight got lost? Only to found out weeks later, the passengers were drowned and dead somewhere in the Indian Ocean. And no one survived the accident.

Yes, same question still runs on my mind. I thought the world’s deadspot was located around the Bermuda Triangle alone? Is terrorism a possible angle on this mishap? Say, what are the developments on this one? Considering one flight of AirAsia suffered the same fate just few days ago; and another Malaysian Airlines was taken down by a rebel group nearby Ukraine and Russia.

Things seems to be going tragic as shit right now.

Guardians’ Dominance | 1/2/2015 4:52:31 PM

No one seems to care about Guardians of the Galaxy, considering the Avengers were the most popular Marvel movie, and Disney’s Frozen already topped 2014.

Hey, they were wrong. James Gunn’s latest project rocked the worldwide box office for weeks and even months (hey, they even snatched the spot away from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles even if it’s already September).

Yes, wrong enough. Chris Pratt, along with Zoe Saldana, Dave “Batista” Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel and the entire GoTG cast, showed Marvel’s different storyline. And their awesome nostalgic soundtrack became evident enough on why Guardians of the Galaxy was for me the best movie for 2014.

The Real “Death” | 1/2/2015 5:00:43 PM

As I said on the earlier part of this series, aside from Brock Lesnar’s domination over the Undertaker at WrestleMania, there’s this one news in the pro wrestling business shocked the world with no kayfabe pun intended: James Brian Hellwig, popularly known in the 80s and 90s as the Ultimate Warrior, passed away. He was 54.

And it came just less than 24 hours after his comeback appearance on the WWE television.

It’s like a weekend to remember for the energetic wrestler: Saturday, April 5, 2014, The Ultimate Warrior has been formally enshrined into the WWE Hall of Fame at New Orleans, Louisiana; Sunday, April 6, Hellwig, along with the likes of Carlos Colon, sons-slash-representatives of the late heel manager Paul Bearer, Lita, and Razor Ramon (or known in the WCW as Scott Hall), earned their few minutes of recognition on the 30th annual WrestleMania held at the Mercedes Benz Superdome in the said city; Monday, Hellwig appeared one last time (or actually, the first time in over 18 years)on WWE’s flagship program Monday Night Raw held at the New Orleans Arena.

And Tuesday afternoon, at Scottsdale, Arizona, Hellwig suffered heart attack which cost his death.

His untimely demise shocked both the fans, and wrestlers—both past and present.

Well, this time, it’s not kayfabe unlike those claims in the past that his booming physique made him dead.

Ending A Long Championship Drought | 1/2/2015 5:10:27 PM

Say, the National University has done it once again…after 60 years.

The NU Bulldogs snatched their second UAAP senior men’s basketball championship by shocking the Far Eastern University in a grueling three-game series last November.

They’re the favorites to win the crown in the first place though you can’t deny fate and history right there. Who would have though after six decades of futility, they are at the top of the Philippines’ popular collegiate league right now?

Perhaps thanks to the Sy group of companies for the school’s rebuilding plan. And after six years since acquiring the Sampaloc, Manila-based campus, looks like their effort on sports programs paid off. Come to think that they also won back-to-back league crowns for the cheerdance competition and also dominating the entire basketball wars in the other division.

The question though is that NU also who dominance on the other sports, including the second most-televised sport in the Philippines right now… volleyball?

We’ll never know. Maybe one day, NU will live up to their mall counterpart’s tagline… “we got it all for you!”
